The Ministry of Railways shared a report of total revenue generated in the year 2024 to 2025:
- In 2022–23, Railways made Rs. 63.7 billion, but spent Rs. 72.2 billion, losing Rs. 8.46 billion.
- The income increased to 88.8 billion rupees in 2023-24 but expenditure fell to 88.4 billion rupees which earned it a modest profit of 410 million.
- So far in 2024–25, income is Rs. 93.4 billion and costs are Rs. 91.1 billion, giving a profit of Rs. 2.26 billion.
Also, Rs. 1.15 billion was spent to give discounted train tickets to students, journalists, seniors, and railway workers.
