Govt Introduces New Toll Tax for M2 Islamabad-Lahore Motorway

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has set new toll rates for the M2 Motorway between Islamabad and Lahore. The updated charges will begin on August 26, 2025, and continue through August 25, 2026.

According to the new schedule:

  • Cars, jeeps, and taxis (Class 1) will be charged Rs. 1,330, which translates to Rs. 3.72 per kilometer.
  • Wagons (Class 2) will incur a toll of Rs. 2,240, or Rs. 6.24 per kilometer.
  • Buses (Class 3) will be charged Rs. 3,130, equal to Rs. 8.73 per kilometer.

This annual 10% increase in toll rates follows the concession agreement signed on April 23, 2014, with Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of FWO. The agreement includes a build-operate-transfer (BOT) clause that requires yearly rate adjustments starting from the motorway’s second year in operation.
