The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been routinely giving low-income families quarterly financial assistance in Pakistan. Under the Kafalat scheme, the eligible beneficiaries receive 13, 500 to facilitate basic household expenditure. The program is centered on the support of women led families and those who are most vulnerable at the national socio-economic registry.

To check the status of payment, a beneficiary can use 8171-web portal. Through their CNIC number and verification code, users can know in real time whether the payment has been approved, is under examination or not eligible. This process will decrease the number of visits one has to make to BISP offices on basic inquiries.
A SMS facility has been implemented by BISP to those with no access to the internet. Users can simply text their 13-digit CNIC to 8171 to get their payment details through text message. It is a free service that transmits real-time updates.
The funds are given to families via HBL Konnect agents, ATM, and specific BISP centers. A biometric check and original CNIC of the registered female recipient are required at collection time.
Applicants must be on the National Socio-Economic Registry and below a poverty score threshold. The 8171 will facilitate timely updating and transparent provision of the program benefits, and therefore, will simplify making payments by qualified citizens.
