Sindh Plans 50% Reduction in E‑Challan Fines

The Sindh government is reviewing its e‑challan fines for traffic violations. Officials said the province may reduce penalties to ease the financial burden on drivers. The special committee, chaired by the Sindh home minister, will finalize the decision soon.

Currently, common traffic offences in Sindh have these approximate fines:

  • Red-light violation: Rs. 500 – 1,000

  • Overspeeding: Rs. 750 – 2,000

  • Illegal parking: Rs. 200 – 500

  • No helmet (motorcyclist): Rs. 200 – 500

  • Seatbelt violation: Rs. 500

  • Mobile phone use while driving: Rs. 1,000

  • Driving without a license: Rs. 1,000 – 2,000

  • Fake or no number plate: Rs. 2,000 – 5,000

  • Heavy vehicle overloading: Up to Rs. 20,000

Sources said authorities are considering cutting fines for motorcycles from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 2,500. Vehicles with engine capacity up to 1,000cc may also get a 50% reduction. The changes may take effect before Ramadan 2026.

The government began reviewing the e‑challan system after complaints about high fines. Traffic police issued thousands of fines in the months following the system launch. Officials hope the reduction will ease citizens’ financial pressure while encouraging road safety.

The committee will gather feedback from all relevant departments before issuing a formal notification. Citizens are watching closely as the decision could significantly impact daily commuters across Sindh.
