ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will export an extra 70,000 metric tons of rice to Malaysia. The shipments will go out between October and December 2026.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the deal on Friday. He said it would help farmers and boost the economy.
“We will continue our journey toward the goal of export-led economic growth through sustained hard work,” Sharif said in a statement from his office.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the extra order came from months of diplomatic and trade talks. Officials pushed for the deal on Sharif’s directions.
“Expanding access to international markets for Pakistani agricultural commodities is the government’s top priority,” Sharif said.
Sharif thanked the team behind the deal. He named Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer, and Commerce Minister Jam Kamal. He also thanked federal secretaries Amer Ali Ahmed and Jawad Paul.
