Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered authorities to finish the Faisalabad and Gujranwala Yellow Line mass transit projects by March 2027
Chief Minister set the completion timeline while leading a progress meeting in Lahore. She instructed construction teams to work in three separate shifts to speed up work. Officials also used drone footage to show ongoing site progress during the briefing.
Gujranwala Yellow Line Project
The Gujranwala Yellow Line project spans 31.5 kilometers. It includes 25 regular stations, 2 underground stations, 12 underpasses, a 35-kilometer service road, and signal-free U-turns.
About one-third of this transit project is complete. Construction crews have installed 1,233 poles and 552 transformers alongside 40% completion of a 62-kilometer drainage network.
Workers will also lay 15,000 feet of sewerage lines, 12,000 feet of water supply lines, and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines.
Faisalabad Transit System Progress
The Faisalabad Mass Transit System covers a 20.5-kilometer route. The network features 21 stations, with 11.3 kilometers built as an elevated track containing 11 elevated stations. Dedicated maintenance depots are planned at Faisal Town and Airport Chowk.
Crews have planted 1,835 replacement trees, laid 15 kilometers of gas pipelines, and built 12 bus stops along the route.
Passenger Facilities
The provincial government instructed engineers to install spacious elevators at all stations to help senior citizens, women, and disabled commuters. Officials also planned green belts and urban forestry along open spaces for environmental balance
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz acknowledged public difficulties caused by ongoing construction work. She told relevant departments to finish all pending tasks within the strict deadline.
