South Korea's Hyundai Motor beat profit forecasts for the third quarter. The carmaker's operating profit rose 5.5% to 2.7 trillion won ($2.01 billion) for July through September. That is up from 2.5 trillion won a year earlier.

Analysts had expected a lower number. The average forecast from LSEG SmartEstimate was 2.4 trillion won. Hyundai beat that estimate by 300 billion won.

Revenue fell during the same quarter. Sales dropped 3.4% to 45.1 trillion won. That is roughly $33.6 billion at Thursday's exchange rate of 1,341.75 won per dollar.
