Bestway Group launched Chinese car maker Geely Auto in Pakistan on Saturday, October 24. The launch brings three new electric and hybrid models to the country.

Bestway Automotive will be Geely's only authorised distributor in Pakistan. The company will handle sales and after-sales service for every Geely car sold here.

As part of the deal, Bestway bought the former Proton plant at Port Qasim in Karachi. The plant will assemble Geely cars for the local market.

Three models are part of this launch:

  • Geely EX2 – a small electric hatchback. It was China's best-selling passenger car in 2025.
  • Geely EX5 – an electric SUV.
  • Geely Starray EM-i – a hybrid model with extended-range EV technology. It holds a Guinness World Record for the lowest fuel use by a plug-in hybrid SUV.

Prices for the three models have not been announced yet.

Group Managing Director Irfan Sheikh said the company will focus on building local parts and supply chains. He said Bestway also plans to build a charging network to support the cars over time.

Bestway says it has invested more than $350 million in Pakistan and created 20,000 jobs over the last three years. These figures cover the group's work in Pakistan, not only the Geely deal.

Geely Auto International Vice President Evin Ye said Pakistan is the company's first market in South Asia. Ye also said Geely is the only car maker with its own low-orbit satellite network. This is a claim by Geely. Dawn's report did not confirm it or give further detail.

Around the world, Geely sold more than 3.02 million vehicles in 2025. Of these, 1.69 million were electric or hybrid models, according to The Express Tribune.

Pakistan has about 17 car assemblers right now. Many are new entrants from China and other countries. Combined plant capacity is 500,000 to 600,000 vehicles a year. Factories are running below half of that capacity. Less than ten years ago, usage was above 80%.
