Japan will give Pakistan $16.4 million to make flood defences stronger in Sindh.
The money will help fix the Old Abad Bund, an old flood wall in Larkana. It stands along the right bank of the Indus River.
Officials from Pakistan and Japan signed the deal on Monday. They signed three papers: an Exchange of Notes, a Record of Discussion, and a Grant Agreement.
The full project is called the “Flood Protection and Dike Improvement on Indus River in Sindh Province.” Its goal is simple: keep floodwater away from homes and farms in Sindh.
Japan’s grant comes to JPY 2.58 billion, close to $16.4 million.
Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai, Secretary at Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, signed for Pakistan. Akamatsu Shuichi, Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, signed for his country.
