Meta rolled out a new AI tool called Muse on Tuesday, September 8. Unlike a normal chatbot, Muse does not just answer questions. It acts on them.
What Muse Can Actually Do
Tell Muse a goal, and it builds a plan around it. Then it starts working on that plan by itself. Meta says Muse can open a browser, fill out online forms, book travel, and even negotiate deals for you.
Most AI tools today still stop at giving advice. They draft an email and wait for you to hit send. Muse is built to go further and finish the job on its own, checking back with you only when needed.
How Meta Is Keeping It Safe
Handing an AI access to your email, calendar, and payment details is a big ask. Meta says it built safety steps to match.
Muse runs inside its own private computer in the cloud, called the Muse Secure VM. A second AI, called Sentinel, watches over the same setup but stays separate from Muse. Sentinel checks major steps, like spending money, before they happen and asks for your approval first. Meta says Muse itself never sees your passwords or card numbers.
Where to Get It, and What It Costs
Muse is live on the web at muse.ai, plus iOS, Android, and WhatsApp. Support for Meta's AI glasses is coming later.
For now, it is only open to users in the United States who are 18 or older.
The basic version is free, with a weekly limit on how much you can use it. Two paid plans go further: Power at $20 a month, and Maximum at $100 a month. You will need to add a payment card to sign up, even for the free plan.
Why the Timing Matters
Muse arrives less than two weeks after Meta agreed to an $18 billion settlement tied to a lawsuit over harm caused by its social media platforms. That makes this launch a real test of whether people are ready to hand Meta even more of their personal data.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has talked about this moment for months. In a recent essay, he said everyone will one day have an agent that works "24/7 on your behalf" to help manage daily life. Muse is Meta's first real attempt to make that happen.
It also puts Meta in direct competition with OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft, all of which are building their own versions of an AI that takes action instead of just talking.
