Pakistan is set to receive its second Qatari LNG shipment this month. The tanker, Shandong Redwood, should reach Port Qasim on September 22, Bloomberg reported.
How the Cargo Got Through
The ship loaded its cargo at Qatar’s Ras Laffan terminal in late June. It crossed the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, ship-tracking data shows.
Government officials on both sides worked out safe passage through the strait. This was confirmed by people close to the talks, who were not named since the matter is not public yet.
Second Delivery This Month
This is Pakistan’s second Qatari LNG cargo in September. The first one, a tanker named Al Marrouna, arrived on September 10. That delivery ended a gap of almost two months. Before that, the last Qatari cargo had come in July.
Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL), the state-run buyer, tried to book one cargo through an open tender for September. It got no bids by the September 8 deadline.
Two earlier tenders were also cancelled. For the September 4-8 window, PLL received one bid at $26.96 per unit (MMBtu). For the September 8-12 window, it got two bids, at $26.71 and $26.98 per unit. Both were dropped for being too costly.
