Pakistan’s Trade Deficit Hits $3.02 Billion in August as Exports and Imports Both Fall

Pakistan’s trade deficit reached $3.02 billion in August 2026. The State Bank of Pakistan released the figures on Wednesday. Both exports and imports fell during the month compared to July.

The deficit was 20% higher than the same month last year. But it was 4% lower than July 2026, on a month-on-month basis.

Exports earned Pakistan $2.46 billion in August. That is down 18% from July, and down 1% from August last year.

Imports cost $5.49 billion in August. That marks an 11% drop from July.

For the first two months of the current fiscal year, exports totalled $5.45 billion. Imports over the same period stood at $11.63 billion.

Economists linked the fall in both exports and imports to rising production costs. Tension in the Middle East also played a part, they said, affecting trade activity during the month.
