The Pakistan Stock Exchange launched a Shariah-compliant trading counter on October 29, 2026. The counter gives investors a separate platform to trade Islamic investments. PSX held a gong ceremony in Karachi to mark the launch.
Central bank officials, SECP representatives, Shariah scholars, and brokers attended the event. The new counter covers Shariah-compliant stocks, Government Ijarah Sukuk, and corporate Sukuk. Non-compliant securities cannot be traded through it. Short selling and derivatives are not allowed either.
Interest-based leverage, such as the Margin Trading System, is blocked. Murabaha Share Financing is offered instead, as the Shariah-compliant option. Investors can also sell non-compliant holdings to clean up their portfolios.
PSX also launched a Shariah Portal. The portal lists every stock and Sukuk that qualifies as Shariah-compliant.
PSX has onboarded 39 brokers to offer Shariah-compliant trading through Islamic windows. Two more brokerage houses are licensed as full Shariah-compliant brokers.
