Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is getting costlier just as winter sets in. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has raised LPG prices by 8 percent for October, adding Rs 244.14 to the cost of a standard domestic cylinder.
The new per-kg rate stands at Rs 279.34, up from Rs 258.64 in September. That works out to a rise of roughly Rs 21 per kg.
| Detail | September | October | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per kg | Rs258.64 | Rs279.34 | +Rs20.70 |
| 11.8kg cylinder | Rs3,052.09 | Rs3,296.23 | +Rs244.14 |
Why Prices Went Up
Ogra linked the increase to the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), the international benchmark Pakistan uses to set LPG rates. This price rose by 9.9 percent compared to last month.
The rupee held fairly steady against the dollar, slipping only 0.12 percent. Since the currency barely moved, it did little to soften the impact of the higher global price.
How the Price Is Built Up
Ogra’s pricing formula adds several layers on top of the base rate:
- Producer price: Rs 238,041.49 per tonne (includes Rs85 per tonne excise duty)
- Petroleum levy: Rs 4,669 per tonne
- GST on producer price: Rs 36,311.41 (was Rs33,155 in September)
- Marketing, distribution and transport margins: Rs 35,000 per tonne, plus 18% GST on that margin
Once all these are added, the final consumer price comes to Rs 279,341.49 per tonne, or Rs 3,296.23 for an 11.8kg cylinder. These rates will stay in place until October 31, 2026
