How the Peshawar Gold Rate Is Set
Karachi’s Sarafa Bazar sets the base rate for the whole country each day, built from the international gold price (quoted in US dollars per ounce on the London and New York bullion markets) and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Peshawar’s own Jewelers Association then publishes a local rate that tracks this closely, usually within a few hundred rupees of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad on the same day.
Gold Weight Units Used in Peshawar
- 1 tola = 11.6638 grams. This is the standard unit Peshawar jewellers quote gold in.
- 1 masha = about 0.97 grams. 12 masha make up 1 tola.
