The government has raised fuel prices across Pakistan. Petrol now costs Rs4.93 more per litre, and high-speed diesel costs Rs7.15 more per litre. The new rates took effect from midnight on Tuesday and apply from Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Why Prices Went Up
The Petroleum Division issued the notification after reviewing recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The increase reflects changes in global oil prices linked to renewed conflict in the Persian Gulf region.
Prices Will Now Change Daily
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said fuel prices will now be set on a daily basis instead of weekly, because international oil prices are moving quickly due to the ongoing Iran-US tensions. The cabinet gave OGRA the job of deciding daily rates based on world market trends.
Not everyone welcomes this change. The All Pakistan Dealers Association has rejected daily pricing and says it may hold a protest over the decision.
How Prices Have Moved This Year
Fuel prices have swung sharply in 2026:
- Diesel started climbing from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran war began on February 28.
- Diesel hit a peak of Rs520.35 per litre on April 3.
- Petrol rose from Rs266 per litre in early March to a peak of Rs458.41 per litre on April 3.
- Both fuels have come down from their April peaks but remain higher than earlier this year.
