48,000 E-Challans in 2 Weeks! Seat Belts & Helmets Top Karachi Violations

Traffic police issued thousands of e-challans in Karachi after the new digital system began.

Karachi Traffic Police issued more than 48,000 e-challans within the first two weeks of the new digital traffic fine system. The department said most violations were related to seat belts and helmets, showing how common road rule breaking remains in the city.

According to officials, a total of 48,211 e-challans were issued under the E Challan Karachi system during the first 14 days.

Main Violations and Number of Fines

  • 31,555 – Not wearing seat belts
  • 8,431 – Not wearing helmets
  • 2,304 – Over-speeding
  • 2,009 – Breaking red lights
  • 1,263 – Using a mobile phone while driving
  • 670 – Tinted windows
  • 585 – Fancy number plates
  • 556 – Driving in the wrong direction
  • 368 – Carrying passengers on the roof
  • 250 – No parking
  • 233 – Violating the stop line
  • 132 – Overloading
  • 65 – Using the wrong lane
  • 58 – Driving the wrong way on one-way roads

Traffic Police said no e-challan has yet been issued for non-payment of taxes.

In the same period, about 4,800 citizens visited the Traffic Police Facilitation Centers. More than 90% of their e-challans were waived, while the remaining cases were forwarded to a special committee for review.

Officials said the digital e challan Karachi system is helping monitor road safety violations more effectively and aims to make Karachi’s roads safer through electronic enforcement.
