The All Pakistan CNG Association appeals to the government to restore gas supply to Karachi’s filling stations. It highlighted that the three-month closure has left thousands of workers unemployed.

The All Pakistan CNG Association has formally requested Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to immediately reopen compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across Karachi. According to an official letter sent by the association, filling stations in Karachi have remained closed for the past three months.

The association coordinator, Samir Najamul Hassan, stated that while gas stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain functional, the continuous closure in Sindh is causing severe financial difficulties for the general public and transport workers.

Economic Impact and Station Closures

According to association data, the closure has severely damaged the local sector over the years. Representatives highlighted the scale of the shutdown:

  • Station Reductions: The total number of operational CNG stations in Karachi has dropped sharply from 300 to only 30 active sites.
  • Daily Consumption: The coordinator stated that the daily gas consumption of all CNG stations across Sindh is only three million cubic feet per day (MMCFD). It makes it easy for utilities to manage.

Supply Restoration and Appeals

Association officials questioned the current distribution policy of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). Samir Najamul Hassan stated that the supply of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) from Qatar through the Strait of Hormuz has already returned to normal. He noted that expensive petrol prices are making travel impossible for poor citizens. It is increasing the need for cheaper fuel options.

According to the statement, the association has appealed directly to the Prime Minister and the Chief of Army Staff to intervene. The association requested the government to restore the gas supply before the upcoming Eid holidays. It will save thousands of station employees from permanent unemployment.
