Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the Metro Green Electric Bus Service in Multan. The event was held at Nawaz Sharif Agriculture University. The chief minister said 3,000 electric buses will run on Punjab’s roads by the end of this financial year. This number will grow to 5,000 within three years.
She said half of the people riding these buses travel without paying any fare.
The buses run on electricity. This means they will not add to smog, she said.
100,000 E-Bikes for Students
Maryam Nawaz also announced 100,000 electric bikes for students. These will go to students at both public and private colleges. Students must register before October 4 to apply. So far, 800,000 people have registered, and 300,000 have already applied.
Women will not need to pay any down payment for the e-bikes. They will only pay Rs 3,000 a month, and the government will cover the interest.
The chief minister asked all bikers to wear helmets. She said free two-day driving training will be given to those who need it.
“Now women will not be dependent on their families and relatives to teach them driving,” she said.
