The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced plans to check taxes of high-earning doctors, beauty parlors, and cosmetic businesses in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. This is part of a plan to bring more people and businesses into the tax system.
According to sources, FBR is targeting doctors charging high fees, businesses selling expensive cosmetics, and beauty parlors for tax audits. Authorities have gathered details about the location, brand, and operations of beauty parlors and aesthetic clinics.
In the first phase, the FBR will focus on 250 high-earning doctors: 100 doctors each from Karachi and Lahore, and 50 doctors from Islamabad.
The FBR will also review private companies in the paint and cosmetic sectors to make sure taxes are paid properly.
Audit Process and Team
The FBR has already hired 600 private auditors to assist with the audits, another 200 will join soon, and total number would be 2,000. All auditors are required to keep taxpayer information confidential.
Millions of Tax Returns to Be Audited
Sources also revealed that the FBR plans a large-scale review of income tax returns this fiscal year. Around 7 to 8 million tax returns could be checked this year using an automated system.
The goal is to make sure professionals and businesses pay the correct taxes and to expand Pakistan’s tax base.
