Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, on October 24, 2025, called for more Canadian investment in Pakistan’s key sectors. It includes renewable energy, mining, and technology. He said trade between the two countries is still lower than it could be and needs to grow.
Aurangzeb spoke to Canada’s new High Commissioner, Tarik Ali Khan, at the Finance Division in Islamabad. He stressed that better remittance channels for Pakistanis living in Canada could strengthen economic ties between the countries.
The minister also updated the envoy on Pakistan’s economy. He said inflation is under control, the government is controlling spending, and the economy is improving after a tough period.
The minister said the government has plans to improve the economy. This includes structural changes, privatizing government-owned companies, and letting the private sector grow. He added that Pakistan is working with international organizations and partners to get foreign investment in energy, infrastructure, and minerals.
The minister said Pakistan needs better formal channels for the Pakistani community in Canada to send remittances. He said these channels are important for stronger economic links between the countries.
He pointed to Canada’s role in the Reko Diq mine as an example of successful collaboration. He highlighted that expanding trade and investment will benefit both countries.
The finance minister said Pakistan is creating better opportunities for investors. The business conditions are being improved, strengthening the economic partnership with Canada.
