Fuel Prices in Pakistan Expected to Rise from Feb 1 Amid Global Tensions

Pakistan is heading for another fuel price change from February 1. Diesel, kerosene, and light diesel oil are expected to become expensive, while petrol may see a very small cut. Global oil tensions, taxes, and the dollar rate are driving the move.

Pakistanis may face another increase in fuel prices as the government prepares to announce new rates late on January 31.

According to official estimates, the biggest jump is expected in High-Speed Diesel (HSD). The price may rise by Rs 9.47 per liter, pushing it from Rs 257.08 to Rs 266.55.

Light Diesel Oil (LDO) is also set to go up by Rs 6.95, taking its price to Rs 153.13 per liter.
Kerosene oil may increase by Rs 3.69, reaching Rs 174.57 per liter.

Petrol users should not expect real relief. Petrol may drop by just 36 paisas, moving from Rs 253.17 to Rs 252.81, or it may remain unchanged.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has completed the price calculations, according to government sources. The summary will be sent to the Petroleum Division on January 30–31.

The Ministry of Finance will issue the final notification after approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, officials confirmed.

Why Fuel Is Getting Expensive

International oil prices have climbed to a four-month high due to rising US-Iran tensions, according to global energy market reports. The arrival of a US naval group in the Gulf region has added fear in the oil market, which traders call a “war premium.”

Diesel prices are rising faster than petrol worldwide because of supply worries. In Pakistan, fuel prices are also affected by the rupee-dollar exchange rate and existing taxes.

Diesel powers transport, generators, and tube wells. Any increase usually raises freight charges and perishable food prices within days.

The rise in kerosene prices will mainly affect low-income households that rely on it for cooking or lighting.

Officials say the last 48 hours of January’s global prices data are not included in the estimate, but they rarely change the final outcome.
