The Government of Pakistan has declared the dates of the upcoming religious festival. The decision gives citizens a clear roadmap on how they can travel and celebrate. The notification specifies the exact dates and the duration of the break for public offices and educational institutions.
Official Holiday Schedule
The federal government approved four eid ul fitr 2026 public holidays for the country. According to the official notification, the holidays will begin on March 20. The break will continue through March 23. This four-day period allows the public to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan with their families.
Implementation and Bank Operations
The Cabinet Division issued this directive following the recommendations from the Ministry of Interior. All federal government departments and semi-government organizations will remain closed during this time. The State Bank of Pakistan will also observe these dates and suspend banking services across the country. Commercial banks will resume their regular operations once the holiday period concludes on March 24.
Advanced Salaries and Pensions
The Finance Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa confirmed that all the government employees and pensioners will get their salaries in advance during the month of March. This action assists families in planning their festival costs and shopping before the start of the break. The other provincial governments generally adopt the practice to make the workforce financially comfortable over the festive season.
Travel and Security Preparations
The transport authorities are now working with provincial governments to control the number of travelers. The National Highway and Motorway Police will also do more patrols to keep the roads safe. Local governments in big cities, such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, are also preparing security arrangements on prayer grounds. These Eid al-Fitr 2026 public holidays overlap with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s projected Shawwal moon sighting.
