Pakistan Completes Historic 5G Auction; Commercial Rollout Expected in 6 Months

Pakistan has finished its 5G spectrum auction and raised $510 million. On 12th March, 2026, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) completed the final stage of the 5G auction. This phase allowed companies to pick their exact frequency spots.

The initial bidding rounds brought in $507 million earlier this week. The final assignment stage added another $3 million to the total. Three main telecom companies won the spectrum:

  • Jazz bought the most with 190 MHz.
  • Ufone followed with 180 MHz.
  • Zong secured 110 MHz.

IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said 5G pilot projects will start in major cities next week. She also noted that internet capacity in Pakistan has now tripled. Users should see better 4G speeds within four months. Full 5G services will launch in Islamabad and other provincial capitals in about six months. The government also plans to let citizens buy smartphones on easy installments to help more people use the new technology.
