The naan price in Lahore has officially increased by Rs 5, bringing the new rate to Rs 30, as tandoor owners cite a sharp rise in fine flour prices. The price of khamiri roti has also been adjusted, while the rate of plain roti remains at Rs 14 as per government control.
According to Aftab Aslam Gul, President of the Muttahida Nan Roti Association, the decision to increase the naan price in Lahore came after the cost of a 50 kg bag of fine flour rose from Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000 in the open market. He stated that the hike was unavoidable as flour prices continue to rise across Punjab.
The Punjab government, however, maintains that it has not approved any price increase, reiterating that the official rate for 100 g roti remains Rs 14. Provincial authorities have issued a notification that the price of a bag of 10 kg flour would be fixed at Rs 905 and a bag of 20 kg at Rs 1,810 and that any overcharging would be heavily sanctioned.
Despite the official control, many tandoors in Lahore are reportedly selling naan at higher prices or reducing the weight of each piece instead of following the fixed rate. The naan price in Lahore has therefore become a point of dispute between vendors and government departments.
If flour prices return to their earlier levels, association members claim they will revert the naan price in Lahore and khamiri roti rates to the previous amount. Authorities are monitoring compliance as food inflation and flour costs continue to pressure household budgets across Punjab.
