Pakistan will expand local mobile phone production and export markets. The Mobile and Electronic Devices Manufacturing Policy 2026-33 will reduce imports and draw foreign investors.
The Engineering Development Board worked with local manufacturers to design the policy. It will ban the import of used mobile phones. The policy encourages phased localization. Companies must produce key components like motherboards, PCBs, displays, and other electronic parts. Smartphones will need 40 components in SKD kits. Feature phones will need 15 components.
The policy sets minimum tariffs and applies tax incentives to support local assembly. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Haroon Akhtar Khan, said the policy will create jobs and strengthen industries. Leading brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and Nokia may invest. The plan will help Pakistan join global value chains. It will grow the electronics sector and make the country a competitive hub for exports.
