PTCL has confirmed that Pakistani internet users might have slow speeds and limited connectivity on Tuesday because of a submarine cable maintenance.
The scheduled operation will begin around 11 AM PST on October 14 and is expected to continue for up to 18 hours while engineers repair a faulty repeater in the undersea system.
The company has apologized for any inconvenience caused during this period. Interestingly, the update comes amid recent complaints about difficulties accessing popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Data from Downdetector shows a noticeable increase in outage reports over the past 24 hours.
This is not Pakistan’s first experience with submarine cable-related disruptions. Just last month, PTCL had cautioned that cable cuts in Saudi waters could interrupt connectivity during peak times.
Additionally, the current outage follows a weekend where mobile internet services were fully suspended in Islamabad and Lahore amid widespread protests by the hardline group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
PTCL has assured that it would resume normal internet connection as soon as possible and apologized for the temporary slowdown of services.
