Punjab Govt Raises Monthly Stipend to Rs 65,000 for New Teachers

The government of Punjab has given a nod to a fresh initiative of recruiting college teaching interns throughout the province. The total budget for this initiative is Rs4.217 billion. Monthly stipends in the range of Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000 will be granted to approximately 8,000 interns.

Interns engaged in the teaching of intermediate classes will receive Rs 55,000 every month, whereas those at the postgraduate level will get Rs 65,000. On the completion of their internship, they will also be awarded official experience certificates.

Of the total number of positions, 404 have been allocated for minorities, 243 for persons with disabilities, and 40 for the transgender community.

At the same time, the government is also planning to outsource the schools that have a student strength of less than 100. Under Phase III of the plan, about 2,500 such schools will be contracted out in December.

The private sector has already managed 10,000 schools, and the government plans to increase the number to 13,000 by the end of the year. In the first phase, 5,863 schools were contracted out, and in the second phase, another 4,453 were contracted.

The initiative is expected to provide more job opportunities for the educated youth in Punjab, besides enhancing the quality of education in both colleges and schools. It shows the government’s resolve to give priority to the young professionals’ empowerment and the teacher shortages issue, where required.
