Sazgar Confirms August Launch for Pakistan-Assembled HAVAL H6 Plug-in Hybrid

Sazgar Engineering Works (SAZEW) has started taking pre-bookings in the country of its first locally assembled plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) called HAVAL H6 Hi4 1.5L AT AWD Turbo PHEV, with initial rollout in the CKD format in August 2025. The auto assembler issued the declaration in a notice submitted at the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Monday.

According to the notice, “the company has commenced the pre‑bookings of its PHEV from today under brand ‘HAVAL H6 Hi4 1.5L AT AWD Turbo PHEV’,” and confirmed that the first CKD units will be delivered in August 2025.

Sazgar also revealed plans to introduce two additional PHEV models: the SUV ‘TANK‑500 Hi4‑T 4X4 2.0L Turbo AT PHEV’ and the pickup truck ‘CANNON ALPHA Hi4‑T 4X4 2.0L Turbo AT PHEV’. The company indicated that CKD assembly of these models will begin by March 31, 2026.

Plug-in hybrids offer greater flexibility in Pakistan’s context, as they can run on electric power for a certain range and then switch to a combined petrol‑electric mode when the battery depletes. This is especially practical given the current shortage of public EV charging stations. In January, the government reduced tariffs on EV chargers by 45% to support broader adoption of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

The industry analysts consider this move as a good indication of healthy competition and market development. According to Samiullah Tariq, Head of Research of Pak Kuwait Investment Company, told Business Recorder, “This is a good development for competition.”

In the meantime, BYD, the Chinese EV market leader, has revealed it would release its initial locally made car in Pakistan in July or August 2026, pointing to an emerging interest in hybrid and electric travel in the region.
