The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) launched the E Challan system in Sargodha and Muzaffargarh where traffic offences identified by the Safe City surveillance cameras. Non-helmeted motorcyclists, writeside, triple riding etc now automatically recorded, and challans issued digitally.
In Bahawalpur, the province’s first AI-powered Safe City Project inaugurated with 257 surveillance cameras, license plate recognition, facial recognition, and e-challan issuance. Taxila Safe City project operates 93 cameras, with 19 traffic violations covered along with other smart city facilities such as panic buttons, drones and sensors to monitor the environment.
The Safe City E-Challan of Punjab was connected with online payment using Punjab e-pay apps. Citizens can now check and pay their challans through the official PSCA e-challan portal (echallan.psca.gop.pk). An online review system is also active, allowing citizens to track penalties digitally.
In Sindh, the Karachi Safe City Project commissioned 542 surveillance cameras that produce time-wise alerts. The system also getting interfaced with E Challan services to keep a track and penalize traffic violations. Recommendations regarding altered fine structures have been provided to the provincial government and two committees are in the process of developing enhanced alerting systems and transferring of information.
Safe City Project and E Challan introduced in other parts of Pakistan to make sure the traffic violations handled digitally. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority is taking the lead in implementing the solution with Karachi still strengthening their network with their Safe City initiatives.
