U.S. Suspends Visa Services in Pakistan After Violent Protests

The United States has cancelled U.S. visa appointments and suspended consular services at its diplomatic missions in Pakistan after violent protests and security threats, effective March 2, 2026.

The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad and the U.S. Consulates in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar halted all visa and American Citizen Services appointments because of ongoing demonstrations, road blockages and clashes near mission buildings.

The unrest followed widespread protests across Pakistan after reported U.S. and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, leading to violent demonstrations at the Karachi consulate where security forces clashed with protesters and multiple people died and were injured.

The US officials advised their personnel to limit their movements, and citizens in Pakistan have been strictly warned to avoid large gatherings and remain alert until the security situation improves.
