Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) denied that it was constructing an artificial island Pakistan in Sindh, Sujawal. According to the company, the existing projects are based on safe drilling in marshy areas. The first drilling of the Sirani Block will start in March 2026 with the aid of elevated roads, jetties, and special seismic surveys.
PPL Denies Plans for Artificial Island in Pakistan
Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) has denied rumors that it is reclaiming land to construct an artificial island Pakistan to explore oil in Sujawal, Sindh. The company emphasized that its activities revolve around the facilitation of safe drilling in hard marshy land but not the single offshore building.
The confusion arose after a Bloomberg report cited PPL’s GM, Arshad Palekar, suggesting the company planned a man-made island 30 kilometers off Sindh’s coast. PPL called the coverage misleading, clarifying that the project does not involve an artificial island Pakistan construction in the traditional sense.
The Sirani Block, a previously unexplored marshy region, will host initial drilling in March 2026. PPL has completed 2D and 3D seismic surveys using transition-zone equipment. The company is building support infrastructure including loading and offloading jetties, and an access road connecting the jetty to the well site. Both the road and well pad are raised nine feet to handle tidal changes.
Materials and rig equipment will move through a 17-kilometer natural water channel, ensuring uninterrupted operations. PPL emphasized that these measures are part of the technical design for safe offshore drilling, not an artificial island Pakistan construction project.
The oil industry in Pakistan was recently brought into the limelight after a social network post by the former US President Donald Trump pointed at the huge oil reserves in the nation. The government has since granted new exploration licenses to PPL, Mari Energies Ltd and Prime International Oil and Gas Company.
PPL has been staying on safe, technically viable exploration to counter misleading reports and to state once again its dedication in advancing energy in Pakistan.
