U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for the TikTok ban in the USA until December 16, 2025.
Trump confirmed that an agreement has been reached between the United States and China on the future of TikTok. Under this deal, the short-video app will continue operations in the U.S.
Speaking at the White House before leaving for his U.K. visit, Trump said, “We have reached a deal on TikTok with China. I will formally confirm this with President Xi Jinping on Friday.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, TikTok’s U.S. operations will be shifted to a consortium of American investors. The consortium includes Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz.
Nearly 80% of shares in the new U.S. company will be held by American investors. The company board will also have a majority of U.S. representatives, with one member nominated by the U.S. government.
As part of the agreement, U.S. TikTok users will be moved to a new app. This app will use the content recommendation algorithm licensed from ByteDance, which is considered the key driver of TikTok’s global success.
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, was earlier directed to either sell its U.S. operations or face a complete ban in America.
So far, the TikTok ban in USA deadline has been extended four times. With the latest extension, the new date is December 16, 2025.
