Understanding the Price Structure
According to the latest Pakistan State Oil (PSO) data the current retail petrol price in Pakistan stands at Rs. 297.53 per liter. This rate follows recent government cuts and also includes structural tax adjustments.
Meanwhile, official notifications from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) confirm a different setup for gas. The standard retail CNG price in Pakistan stands at Rs. 308.76 per kilogram. This pricing is heavily driven by international liquefied gas procurement costs. Stations using imported Re-Gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) pass these global supply chain pressures down to the pump.
This means gas now costs Rs 11.23 more per unit than standard petrol on paper.
Evaluating CNG vs Petrol
When analyzing CNG vs petrol, the upfront retail price is only half the story. Motorists face a hidden financial loss because a single kilogram of compressed gas does not yield a major mileage advantage over a liter of liquid fuel anymore.
Additionally, frequent gas load shedding and low station pressure mean drivers spend extra time waiting in long queues just to fill their tanks.

Vehicle experts warn that running standard cars on gas causes permanent engine wear. Cylinders add massive physical weight to the trunk, which strains the vehicle suspension and reduces overall safety.
With petrol prices dropping below the cost of gas, switching back to standard fuel is currently the smartest choice to save on long-term repair bills.
