Pakistan’s shift toward green energy hit two major milestones today as Chery Master began deliveries of the country’s first premium Tiggo 9 plug-in hybrid SUV. Simultaneously, China’s Dongjin Group announced a $15 million investment to build a battery manufacturing plant in Faisalabad, promising to lower costs for electric vehicle (EV) and solar energy users across the country.

In a landmark event for the local auto industry, Chery Master Pakistan has officially started customer deliveries of the Tiggo 9 PHEV. This vehicle is the first premium locally assembled plug-in hybrid SUV in Pakistan, boasting a massive 1,400 km total driving range.

The launch is backed by the Master Group’s 60-year industrial legacy. It signals a rapid transition toward advanced and fuel-efficient mobility for Pakistani consumers.

The Tiggo 9 PHEV is equipped with state-of-the-art “Super Hybrid” technology. It produces 610 horsepower and 920 Nm of torque.

This launch follows the back-to-back rollout of the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 hybrid models, establishing the largest locally assembled hybrid lineup in the country’s history. Industry experts believe this will set a new benchmark for luxury and efficiency in the domestic market.

Faisalabad to Become a Hub for EV Batteries

While new cars hit the road, the infrastructure to support them is also growing. China’s Dongjin Group has signed an agreement with the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) to set up a $15 million dry battery manufacturing plant in Allama Iqbal Industrial City, Faisalabad. This plant will produce high-quality batteries for electric bikes, cars, and solar energy storage systems.

The new facility is expected to create hundreds of jobs. It also introduces modern lithium-ion technology to Pakistan. By producing batteries locally, the country can reduce its heavy dependence on expensive imports.

Under the Special Economic Zone rules, the Dongjin Group will get a 10-year tax holiday. It is to ensure long-term stability for this critical energy project.
