Google Office in Pakistan Signals Shift Toward Regional Technology Hub, says Aurangzeb

The federal government plans a future-focused strategy instead of reactive policies to achieve sustainable growth. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb shared this vision at the ninth Future Summit in Karachi.

He said the government focuses on structural reforms, fiscal discipline, and private-sector partnerships to strengthen the economy. Aurangzeb added that Pakistan now enjoys macroeconomic stability, confirmed by international institutions. He called it the beginning of a long-term growth journey.

In the first nine months of 2025, Pakistani companies saw profits rise by 14%. The OICCI survey showed that 73% of CEOs view Pakistan as a good place for investment. The government listed minerals, IT, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and the blue economy as key growth sectors.

Aurangzeb said the private sector will get a stronger role in these areas. He welcomed Google’s new office in Pakistan and said it helps the country move closer to becoming a regional technology hub.

He said the government has now entered the implementation phase. It added 900,000 new taxpayers, used AI for transparency, and pushed forward privatisation of PIA and power distribution companies. He said reforms continue in tax, energy, pension, and debt management to support long-term economic stability.
