Punjab Government Ends Nursing Student Stipends, Introduces Fees in Public Colleges
The Punjab government has withdrawn the Rs. 31,600 monthly stipend for nursing students in government colleges. Free hostel facilities for female students are also removed. This is part of the first step toward medical education privatization.
New BSN Admission Policy in Punjab
The University of Health Sciences (UHS) now manages all nursing college admissions. Under the new BSN admission policy, students must pay annual fees similar to private colleges. Punjab government nursing colleges will offer 3,100 seats in day shifts and 1,400 seats in evening shifts across 60 institutions.
Applications for quota-based seats in Punjab’s medical and dental colleges start on December 1. Candidates must apply online through the UHS portal. For the first time, students from other provinces can submit direct applications. Admissions will not be based on nomination papers under the Punjab cabinet-approved policy.
Nursing students now pay for their tuition and accommodation after the stipend was eliminated and fees were imposed. For transparency and uniformity throughout Punjab, all admissions and seat assignments adhere to the UHS policy.
