The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has made a significant discovery of hydrocarbon in Sindh. The reserve yields 2,000 barrels of oil daily. It is expected to help reduce the country’s energy supply deficit.
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially discovered a new oil and gas reserve in the Sanghar district of Sindh.
According to an official corporate letter sent to the government and company shareholders, the resource discovery was made at the Bobi Deep-1 exploratory well. It sits within the Bobi and Dhamraki Mining Lease. Company documentation confirms that OGDCL holds a 100% working interest in this specific well.
Management stated that the new supply will directly help bridge the current gap between energy demand and domestic supply using indigenous resources.
Production Estimates
Technical teams completed testing operations to determine the daily production capacity of the new reservoir.
The initial production details from the discovery include:
- Daily Oil Production: The well will yield 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).
- Daily Gas Production: Initial gas flow tests estimate a production rate of 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).
Depth of the Well
Engineering reports show that the exploratory well was re entered on 3 May 2026. It successfully drilled 3,305 meters of total depth down into the Sembar formation.
Testing experts utilized a cased-hole Drill Stem Test to tap into the Massive Sand of the Lower Goru formation.
It was the very first successful hydrocarbon discovery from this specific sand play within the lease area. Industry experts noted that the impressive daily output has successfully de-risked similar exploration plans in the surrounding region, opening up fresh paths for local resource growth.
