Pakistan’s auto industry had two big moments this week. Suzuki launched Pakistan-made Alto and Every cars in Brunei, its first time exporting this type of small car from a plant outside Japan. At almost the same time, Pakistan’s auto parts manufacturers asked the government for much higher duties on imported vehicles in the upcoming Auto Policy 2026-31, saying local manufacturers need more protection from outside competition.
Suzuki’s Pakistan-Made Cars Reach Brunei
Pak Suzuki Motor Company builds both the Alto and the Every locally, and Boustead Sdn. Bhd., Suzuki’s long-time distributor in Brunei, is now selling them there. The launch happened on August 27 at an event in Bandar Seri Begawan, marking 50 years of Boustead’s partnership with Suzuki. Around 120 guests attended, including Japan’s Ambassador to Brunei.
Suzuki says this is the first time a kei-sized vehicle, small cars built to Japan’s compact size and engine rules, has been exported from an overseas Suzuki plant to another country. Pakistan has built the Alto since 2019 and added the Every in 2024. Both use Suzuki’s 660cc R06A engine.
Brunei already sells other Suzuki models through Boustead, including the Jimny, Ertiga, and Fronx. Boustead sold around 1,200 Suzuki vehicles in the 2025 fiscal year, making up close to 9.5% of Brunei’s car market. Suzuki motorcycles are also coming to Brunei, with models like the Hayabusa and GSX-8R expected around autumn 2026.
