Pakistan Prepares for 5G Auction as PTA Secures Rs12 Billion

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has gathered 12 billion rupees of telecom operators in advance of the intended 5G spectrum auction in Pakistan. The payments were made in the form of the regulatory obligations and license-related fees prior to companies being allowed to take part in the next auction.

According to details, the payments were made by major telecom companies operating in Pakistan, including Jazz, Telenor Pakistan, Zong, and Ufone. These operators cleared outstanding dues and renewal fees to remain eligible for the next-generation mobile spectrum auction.

The collections were prepared in March 2026 with the government and PTA increasing their efforts to prepare the launching of 5G services in the country. Officials have been working on the regulatory framework, financial requirements, and spectrum allocation ahead of the auction.

According to the PTA officials, telecom companies have to be cleared of outstanding payments and regulatory requirements before being eligible to take part in the bidding process. The regulator is undertaking to complete policy directions, spectrum bands, and auction processes involved in the deployment of 5G.

The 5G spectrum auction will be conducted later in 2026, and the telecom operators will have the opportunity to offer bids on the high-speed mobile network frequencies. The relocation is within the wider scope of the government to enhance digital access and the presence of enhanced telecommunication services in the country of Pakistan.

As the dues amount of Rs12 billion are collected, authorities declare that the preparations of the auction are in the process, and more actions will be done to complete the schedule and the rules of participation of telecom companies.
