Pakistani Rupee Declines Against Major Currencies

The Pakistani rupee lost ground on Wednesday, ending a 10-day winning streak against the US dollar. The currency decreased in value against UK’s pound as well.

The rupee closed at 282.67 per dollar in banks. This was a drop of 10 paisas or 0.03 percent. Open market rates stayed between 283-285 rupees per dollar. Some sellers in the capital quoted 285 rupees per dollar.

The British pound rose to 377-383 rupees in open markets. The Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan said the buying rate was 380 rupees. Some exchange shops sold pounds for as high as 383 rupees.

So far, this fiscal year, the rupee has dropped 1.30 percent against the dollar. Officials are still working to control open market trading. It lost value against the Euro, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, UAE dirham, and Saudi riyal.
