Pakistan’s stock market opened lower on Monday. The KSE-100 index fell close to 595 points in early trading, weighed down by selling across banks and other major sectors. At 9:35am, the index stood at 177,101.65, down 594.85 points. By 9:40am, it had recovered slightly to 177,149.01.
Broad Declines Across the Board
The drop wasn’t limited to the KSE-100. Other key indexes fell too:
- All-Share Index: down 240 points, to 107,464.34
- KSE-30: down 194 points, to 52,738.07
- KMI-30: down 756 points, to 251,042.11
- Banking Index: down 379 points, to 50,111.35
Trading stayed active despite the losses. More than 50 million shares changed hands, worth Rs. 1.91 billion, across over 24,000 trades. Out of 569 active symbols, 169 gained ground, 199 fell, and 201 stayed unchanged, a sign investors were split on where the market goes next.
Monday’s dip continues a pattern seen through most of last week. The KSE-100 swung sharply more than once, dropping 2,547 points one session on fading hopes for a US-Iran peace deal and rising oil prices, then losing another 1,109 points days later on worries tied to the Strait of Hormuz. A quieter Thursday session ended almost flat.
