Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the Roshan Maeeshat electricity package to help factories and farmers get cheaper electricity. The plan will stay in place for three years, until October 2028.
Speaking at a meeting with business leaders and agricultural experts in Islamabad on Thursday, the prime minister said that both sectors will now get electricity at Rs 22.98 per unit under this new plan.
He said the current power rate of Rs 34 per unit for industries and Rs 38 per unit for the agriculture sector will be reduced. Extra electricity at Rs.22.98 per unit will also be given to support more production.
Shehbaz Sharif praised Energy Minister Owais Leghari and his team for preparing this plan. He said the government wants to help these sectors grow, create jobs, and make Pakistan’s economy stronger.
The prime minister said that last year’s package helped industrial and agricultural sectors use 410 gigawatts of extra electricity, which boosted exports and jobs.
He added that Pakistan has faced tough economic challenges, but the situation is now improving with help from the economic team and stakeholders.
The Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package is part of the government’s plan to reduce costs, increase investment, and support long-term growth. Shehbaz Sharif said the goal is to make Pakistan self-reliant and less dependent on loans in the future.
