In a significant step toward enhancing digital infrastructure, the Punjab government has officially launched free Wi-Fi services in Rahim Yar Khan, offering residents improved internet access across the city.
Initiated on Monday, this rollout is part of the province’s broader strategy to strengthen digital connectivity throughout Punjab. Citizens in Rahim Yar Khan can now enjoy complimentary internet at prominent public locations such as Adda Khanpur, City Pull, School Bazaar, Railway Station, Jail Chowk, and Hospital Chowk.
The coverage area spans from Dari Sangi to Chak No 72-PN, ensuring seamless access for students, commuters, and local residents to stay connected.
This initiative complements the government’s ongoing digital transformation efforts, which have already established over 200 Wi-Fi hotspots in Lahore and a total of 270 active access points across 11 districts in the province.
The project is being managed by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, which has extended the service to additional cities including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree.
To date, the free Wi-Fi network has served more than 13 million users, with data consumption exceeding 265 terabytes, according to the Authority. While the service is intended to support everyday online activities, it is not designed for emergency communication, video streaming, or entertainment usage.
This digital expansion is being carried out under the guidance of the Chief Minister, reinforcing Punjab’s commitment to becoming a fully connected and technologically advanced province.
