CDA to Launch Free Graveyard and Eco-Friendly Funeral Bus Service in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA), under Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has confirmed the launch of free graveyard services and eco-friendly funeral buses in Islamabad. The move builds on the CDA Board’s earlier decision to waive charges for grave digging and funeral bus services across all public cemeteries.

Free Graveyard Services in Islamabad

The CDA announced that citizens will continue to receive free graveyard services, including grave digging and funeral transport, in all public cemeteries of Islamabad. This policy was reaffirmed for 2025 and applies citywide. According to officials, the objective is to provide relief to families during burial arrangements.

Development of New Graveyards in Islamabad

In early September 2025, CDA confirmed the construction of three new graveyards in Pandorian, Malpur, and Hummak. These facilities will contain funeral halls, mosques, ablation area, paved walkways, water supply, LED lights, and exclusive parking. The growth will help to reduce the congestion at the current graveyards like H-11 Muslim graveyard and the H-8/1 Christian graveyard.

Existing sites are also being upgraded with road repair, horticulture development, permanent lighting, and building of boundary walls. This will make sure there are no graveyards in Islamabad that do not comply with security and accessibility standards.

Eco-Friendly Funeral Bus Service in Islamabad

A new eco-friendly funeral bus service in Islamabad is being introduced with special electric buses. These buses will transport the deceased free of charge to both new and existing graveyards. CDA officials confirmed that the free funeral bus service is part of the city’s broader electric public transport system, where general routes are digitized and available on Google Maps. The funeral-specific buses will remain cost-free.

The free graveyard and funeral bus services are supported by monitoring systems. Drone surveillance and Google Earth mapping are being used to prevent encroachments on graveyard land. Over 60 kanals were recovered in August 2025 as part of this initiative.

The CDA’s free graveyard services and eco-friendly funeral bus project are part of efforts to modernize burial facilities in Islamabad. Coordination with the Engineering Wing and DMA ensures the resources are allocated for timely completion.
