Hyundai Drops Bold Teaser for Next-Gen i20 Hatchback in Supercar Styling

Hyundai has released a new look at its upcoming i20 hatchback. The global preview shows an entirely new design with sharp lines, leaving behind the smooth curves of the older models.

Hyundai has released the first official teaser for its fourth-generation i20 premium hatchback. The new design moves away from the soft, rounded lines of a standard family car. Instead, it features a much more aggressive and boxy look.

The standout feature is its new front lighting design. It uses sideways, Y-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs). These lights are split by a sleek full-width light bar. This bold look makes the car resemble the Lamborghini Revuelto supercar.

However, this global model is not actively headed to Pakistan. Packing high-tech hybrid features into a small car is very expensive and difficult to compete with under current local taxes. Considering that, Pakistani buyers may prefer traditional sedans like the Yaris and City or compact SUVs.

Modern Cockpit and Hybrid Engines

Leaked data and a teaser show several major interior updates:

  • Curved Twin Screens: The redesigned dashboard features a curved housing that blends a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster with a matching infotainment screen.
  • Smart Driver Safety: The car comes with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite and a 360-degree camera for better safety.
  • Hybrid Technology: Hyundai is building this new platform to support hybrid setups. Global markets are expected to see a 1.0-liter turbo mild-hybrid system.

Impact on the Local Pakistani Market

Even though the i20 is highly unlikely to land in local showrooms, this global reveal still matters for local buyers. Hyundai uses the same design style across all its cars worldwide. This means the sharp geometric lines and Y-shaped lights on this hatchback will likely appear on the upcoming local sedans and SUVs, like the Elantra, Sonata, and Tucson.

Additionally, Hyundai Nishat is already focusing heavily on hybrid cars in Pakistan with the Santa Fe and Tucson models. Seeing the company put hybrid engines into smaller global cars shows that the technology is getting cheaper and easier to build.
