The government of Pakistan decided to remove the Rahim Yar Khan power project from China-Pakistan Economic Corridor or CPEC.
Rahim Yar Khan power project is now removed from CPEC and the government cited the sufficient generation as the reason. In addition, some other schemes covered under the Public Sector Development Programme or PSDP will be also stopped.
According to sources, Pakistan already told China that they are not interested in the 1320MW CPEC power project at Rahim Yar Khan. However, government officials revealed that there is already a sufficient generation in pipeline for the upcoming years. In addition, they asked China to officially remove the Rahim Yar Khan power project from CPEC.
In December 2018, eighth meeting of JCC or Joint Coordination Committee was conducted. Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister for Planning and Development, led the Pakistani delegation. However, he suggested the removal of 1320MW Rahim Yar Khan power plant from the list of CPEC projects.
