The government has raised the petrol rate in Pakistan by Rs1.63 per litre. The new rate is Rs335.81, up from Rs334.18. Diesel (HSD) also went up, by Rs1.55 per litre, moving from Rs386.83 to Rs388.38. Both rates started on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) issued the notice. It acted on advice from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Why Did Petrol Price Go Up?
Global oil prices actually dropped in the days before this hike. Brent crude fell 17 percent in three days, after tension between the US and Iran eased. Even so, Pakistan’s petrol rate moved up, not down.
The reason lies in how OGRA now works. It checks fuel prices daily instead of every two weeks. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik confirmed this change earlier. The daily system tracks global oil rates and the dollar-to-rupee rate every day, so prices can shift up or down at short notice.
Not everyone supports this change. The All Pakistan Dealers Association has openly rejected daily pricing. Dealers say the constant changes create stock problems at pumps, and they have talked about protests over it.
Taxes Included in the Price
Part of what you pay at the pump goes to fixed government charges. These stayed the same this time:
- Petroleum levy: Rs80 per litre on petrol, Rs70.82 per litre on diesel
- Climate Support Levy: Rs5 per litre on both fuels
- Custom Duty: Rs17.28 per litre on petrol, Rs15.68 per litre on diesel
A Quick Look Back
Fuel prices were much higher earlier this year. In April 2026, petrol had crossed Rs458 per litre, and diesel had gone past Rs520, during a sharp jump in global oil rates. Prices have dropped a lot since then, but small daily changes like this one are now normal.
What This Means for You
Rs1.63 looks small on its own. But if you fill a 40-litre tank, you now pay about Rs65 more than before.
- Bike and car owners with daily routes will feel this the most.
- Since diesel also went up, transport fares and delivery costs may edge higher too, as trucks and buses run on HSD.
- Since OGRA now updates rates daily, it helps to check the price before you plan a long trip or a big fuel purchase.
