Tomato Price in Pakistan Shoots Up as Rates Cross Rs700 a Kilo

Tomato prices in Pakistan has jumped high in many cities like Karachi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar. Shoppers are finding it hard to buy tomatoes at normal rates.

In Karachi, vendors are charging between Rs500 and Rs700 per kilogram. However, the official government rate is Rs322 per kg.

In the Federal B Area, tomatoes are reportedly sold at Rs. 650 per kg, while in areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road, prices have reached the highest at Rs. 700 per kg.

In the Shaheed Benazirabad district of Sindh, tomatoes are selling at Rs600 per kg in Sakrand. According to traders, the supply is short, and tomato price in Pakistan rise every few days.

In Faisalabad, vendors are charging around Rs500 per kg for both peas and tomatoes. Local traders say that weak market checks let vendors set their own prices.

In Peshawar, tomatoes have crossed several 100-rupee marks. Onions are also sold above Rs100 per kg. Whereas, Quetta has slightly lower rates compared with other cities, around Rs300 per kg, but still higher than usual.
