FBR Suspends Afghan Transit Trade Operations from Karachi Ports

FBR Pakistan has stopped Afghan Transit Trade transport of goods from Karachi Port. The move follows a customs order citing space shortages at Quetta and Peshawar transit stations.

FBR Pakistan ended all Afghan Transit Trade 2025 shipments from Karachi ports. The decision came after a meeting with the Director General of Afghan Transit Trade at Customs House Karachi. It was issued under Customs General Order (CGO) No. 98/2025.

Quetta and Peshawar customs stations have no space left for new containers. Both facilities reached full capacity.

After the order, Karachi Port News reported that clearance of Afghan Transit Trade 2025 containers stopped at Karachi Port and Port Qasim. Terminals began offloading containers already on vehicles.

Bloom Pakistan said all gate passes for Afghan Transit Trade are cancelled. Transportation remains suspended until further notice. Hundreds of containers stand at terminals and highways leading to Quetta and Peshawar.

Reuters reported that Pakistan shut key border crossings with Afghanistan on 12 October 2025 after cross-border firing. The new FBR order, along with the border closure, has put Pakistan Afghanistan Border Trade on hold.

Drivers and transporters now wait for clearance to move goods once the border reopens.

Dawn reported that trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan dropped to USD 1.1 billion in early 2025. Earlier this year, Afghan Transit Trade saw a 9 percent increase in activity.

The Pakistan Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) urged authorities to keep politics separate from trade to prevent more disruption.

The News International confirmed that the Port Qasim clearance suspension continues. FBR Pakistan has not given a timeline to resume Afghan Transit Trade 2025 shipments. The order remains valid until the situation changes.
